The Holiday Season is always a wonderful time of year to show appreciation to not only those that you love, but those that you, well, appreciate. You can show your gratitude with a gift or token along with a heartfelt note or letter. These small holiday gestures to the people you encounter on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis go a long way in strengthening your relationships at home and in the community.
So, what and how much should you give to those gardeners, mail carriers, babysitters, teachers and everyone else you’d like to show gratitude to? Well, there are no correct answers here, BUT consider using the following tips on tipping as a guideline.
Au pair/Nanny: A gift from your family (or one week’s pay), plus a small gift from your child.
Babysitter: One evening’s pay, plus a small gift from your child.
Barber/Hairdresser: Cost of one haircut, and/or gift.
Child’s Teacher: Give a gift, not cash (gift certificate for coffee shop, book store, restaurant or joint gift with other parents and children).
Day Care Providers: $25 to $70 each, plus a small gift from your child.
Housekeeper: One day’s pay.
Mail Carriers: No cash, gifts worth up to $20 each.
Pet Groomer: One session’s fee, and/or a small gift.
Pool Cleaner: Cost of one cleaning.
Yard/Garden Worker: $20 to $50 each.
There you have it! The key here is to let the spirit of the holidays, along with common sense, be your guide. The importance is in the thought, and the fact that you’ve read this far into a blog such as this speaks volumes as to your generosity of heart. If you feel I have left anything out of the list, feel free to add it to the comments section! I would greatly appreciate your input.
Happy Holidays from Ramy Sghayer, C21 Realtor and thanks for being a part of Sweet 650 Homes!
